General Manager – Sheltered Housing and Community Services

Our client is a respected registered charity providing sheltered housing for individuals who wish to live independently within a safe, supportive, and community-focused environment.

As the organisation continues to grow and professionalise its operations, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Manager to lead the day-to-day running of the charity, ensuring excellent resident services, strong governance, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership across housing services, staff management, resident wellbeing, compliance, community engagement, communications, and fundraising.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring a confident and compassionate professional with experience in housing, social care, community services, or the nonprofit sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of the organisation while maintaining its strong commitment to independence, dignity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Oversee the day-to-day operations of sheltered housing schemes.
Ensure housing services are delivered to the highest standards.
Support resident wellbeing, independence, and satisfaction.
Ensure properties meet all relevant housing and safety requirements.
Team Leadership
Lead, motivate, and develop staff across the organisation.
Foster a positive, professional, and resident-focused culture.
Support employee development through coaching and mentoring.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure compliance with housing legislation, health and safety requirements, safeguarding protocols, and charity governance standards.
Maintain strong governance practices and reporting structures.
Provide regular operational and strategic updates to the Board of Trustees.
Financial Management
Work closely with finance personnel and trustees to develop and manage budgets.
Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings.
Support the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
Act as an ambassador for the organisation within the local community and wider housing sector.
Build and maintain relationships with local authorities, healthcare providers, community groups, and key stakeholders.
Represent the organisation at meetings, events, and sector forums.
Communications & Promotion
Oversee the organisation’s website and communications channels.
Develop and implement communications, outreach, and engagement initiatives.
Raise awareness of the organisation’s impact and services.
Fundraising & Development
Identify and secure grant funding opportunities.
Develop relationships with donors, supporters, and funding bodies.
Represent the organisation through presentations, public speaking engagements, and funding pitches.
Support income generation initiatives to ensure future growth and sustainability.
About You

You will be an experienced leader with a genuine commitment to community-based services and resident wellbeing.

Essential Requirements
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience managing sheltered housing, supported accommodation, social housing, or a related service environment.
Proven experience leading teams and managing service delivery.
Strong knowledge of housing and charity sector regulations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Confidence presenting to boards, community groups, funders, and external stakeholders.
Experience in grant applications, fundraising, or securing external funding.
Desirable
Experience within the Irish voluntary housing, charity, or nonprofit sector.
Understanding of older persons’ services, safeguarding, and independent living models.
Experience in community development and stakeholder engagement.
